When I first came to you, all I said was that this would be her first safari trip, and that I wanted to celebrate her 79th birthday in a truly unforgettable way. I gave you complete freedom to plan her dream trip, and you did exactly that—and so much more. Every detail was perfectly orchestrated, from our stay in Johannesburg to our flights, to being greeted with warmth and care by porters at every step. You took care of everything, and that in itself was such a luxury. We were free to just experience—to be present in the moment, in the wild.

The two camps you chose—Kings Pool and Mombo—were beyond anything I had imagined. And the fact that we stayed in Room Number One at both, with complete privacy and the wilderness right outside our doorstep, was incredible. At Kings Pool, we had the privilege of meeting such kind and special people—the kind who make you feel like family from the moment you arrive. I’ll never forget at King’s Pool, the baboons jumping on our balcony, or napping to the sound of hippos nearby or the hyena and water buffalos sleeping just in front of our porch at Mombo. It was like living inside a nature documentary—but with the warmth and comfort of home.

Margaret, thank you. Thank you for your thoughtfulness, your expertise, and your incredible ability to turn a vision into something even greater than I imagined. I’m so grateful we got to work together—and I can’t wait to plan another journey with you when the time is right.

It only remains for me to add that this was also a spiritual birthday gift for me. As an animal lover, a nature, marine and cultural conservator, to see the splendid wild animals and birds free, healthy and happy, in their natural habitat; minimum invasion to the land with roads and dwellings; and last but not least to observe the native Africans making everything work smoothly, proud of their work, confident and happy: all this was not just a good holiday, it was inspiring and a ray of hope for the future of our ailing planet.
